A graduate of the National Fine Arts Academy in Sofia, Evgeni Kuzmanov
is celebrated for his work in bronze and marble sculpture, including
several monuments that grace public spaces in Bulgaria. His works have
been acquired by the National Gallery and numerous other art musuems
throughout the country. During a state visit in 1999, President Bill
Clinton was presented with one of Kuzmanov's sculptures, a black
marble eagle, as a gift from the Bulgarian people.
Eagles are one of Evgeni's favorite subjects and can be found
throughout his body of work. Characters and events taken from European
mythology are also recurring themes in Kuzmanov's pastel drawings, which
are notable for their use of metallic colors.
He has participated in exhibitions throughout Europe (Italy, France,
Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic, and Macedonia, among others) and is the
recipient of numerous awards for his art. He is a docent at the Southwest
University in Blagoevgrad, where he teaches sculpture and painting. Evgeni
is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Painters.
