A native of Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, Christo Chapkarov is a graduate of
the Fine Arts Academy in Veliko Turnovo, Bulgaria. For six years, he was
a municipal advisor on the arts for the City of Blagoevgrad. In 1991, he
began teaching art at the elite "Ludmil Stoyanov" language high school
and, in 1995, became professor of art and sculpture at the Southwestern
University in Blagoevgrad.
His works are exhibited at national galleries throughout Bulgaria. Many
of his paintings have been acquired by private collectors in Switzerland,
Germany, France, the United States, and Macedonia. He has exhibited solo
in the French city of Tours, as well as in Neufchatel, Switzerland.
Christo's expressionist style is distinctive and reflects the artist's
inner vision of the world. His brushwork technique is revealed in the
very unique texture of his paintings. In addition to oil paintings, he
has worked extensively as a sculptor, but his current medical condition
has led him to focus exclusively on oil painting.
